Birth Alert

Tip: We match VSTAT with the mother's SSN. If mother does not have an SSN, no Birth Alert occurs. If mom's name matches a name on N-FOCUS but not the SSN or DOB, an error report is created. This error report is worked by a central office staff person. The staff person attempts to match mom to a person in N-FOCUS and notifies the worker. IF mom's name on the newborn's birth certificate does not match what we have on N-FOCUS, it will not appear on an error report. If a pregnant client does not have an SSN, the worker may want to set themselves an alert for the baby's due date to check with mom to see if the baby was born.

Alert #240: This alert comes from Vital Statistics when a child is born. The alert lists the birth mother's name, birth mother's date of birth, birth certificate number, child's name, child's date of birth, child's sex, child's place of birth and the father's name (if it is listed on the birth certificate). If the SSN is requested, this will also be indicated on the alert and a separate alert will be created when the SSN is returned.

Action: See Pregnancy and steps listed under "Update Pregnancy" for instructions on how to update the pregnancy to show the newborn child.

It is also important that this child be added to any appropriate program case (such as SNAP). See Participant Actions for instructions for Add/Reopen a person. Use the Add function since this child was never included in the program case.
