Third Party Liability (TPL)

Key Points:

• TPL information can only be added for persons who are active participants in N-FOCUS and have been assigned a Medicaid number.
• TPL information can be added for unborns in the same manner as born children.
• Accident/casualty policies are not entered on the TPL system. If you are aware the client has an accident/casualty policy, send a note to Emil Spicha in the TPL Unit. When an accident-related claim comes in the claim will be suspended.
• Dental insurance policies and prescription coverage policies should be added to TPL.
• Car insurance policies are not added to N-FOCUS.
• Life insurance polices are not to be added to N-FOCUS.
• Income producing policies are to be added to TPL.
• Long term care policies are to be added to TPL.  They are to be coded with 150 as the coverage type.  Notify TPL staff after entering the policy, as they will change the type to long term care.
