The 40 Quarters Interface is an exchange of information with the Social Security Administration. The 40 quarters is used to determine eligibility for aliens applying for benefits.
In order to receive interface information about an individual, the individual must be in pending or active status in a program case in N-FOCUS.
A person is awarded a 'quarter of coverage' once a certain amount of income is earned during a three month period (quarter) of the year. The amount of earnings needed to earn a quarter of coverage increase each year. For 2012, the amount is $1130.00 for a quarter. The employment must be covered under Title II of the Social Security Act, as listed on their website.
A 40 Quarters Request response take at least 48 hours. Once the request has been made, the information will be displayed in the 40Q icon on the Interfaces Main Menu.
The interface information will display the case person's social security numbers, date of birth, name and gender as well as the date the record was received. The years are displayed from most recent year in descending order. Eligibility for each of the 4 quarters in that year are represented by a response code.
