Interview Questions for Substance Abuse

  1. Lets talk a little about any times that you may have tried alcohol, or any other drugs.

  2. Have you ever tried alcohol?

    Tell me about the first time you ever tried alcohol.

    How often do you drink?

    What do you drink?

    Have you ever been drunk before?

    Tell me about what you are like when you are intoxicated.

  3. Tell me about any drugs you have tried?

    Have you ever smoked marijuana

    Tell me about the first time you tried marijuana.

    Tell me about when you smoke marijuana — what are you like, who are you with?

  4. Have you tried any other drugs?

    Tell me about them.

  5. Do you feel like using alcohol or drugs has interfered with you functioning at all, like with your relationships with parents, friends, or with your schoolwork?

    Why do you feel that way?

    Do you ever fight with your parents or friends over you drinking/drug use?

    Have you ever considered stopping all the partying?

    Why do you think you drink/use drugs?

  6. Had you been smoking or drinking when you got in trouble this last time?
  7. What about the other times you have been arrested?  Had you been smoking or drinking?
  8. Had any of the times you got in trouble on probation before been because of dirty urines or drinking?
