Placement Preferences

Record the Placement preferences. Placement preferences may only be entered for the following facility types:

  1. On the Home Detail window, highlight the facility type to enter preferences and select the Placement Preferences button. The Detail Placement Preference window displays and the Organization name is carried over from the Home Details window. If placement preferences have not been previously entered, message "No preferences found" displays. Select OK.

Note: The system reads the preferences based on the facility type. Adoptive Homes have Adoptive preferences, while all the remaining facility types will have Foster preferences. It is recognized that a family may have different preferences for children they wish to adopt as compared to their preferences for children they will foster. After discussing preferences with the organization, the worker should record the information on this window.

  1. Enter the Gender and Age Range for the preferred children. When the numerical age is entered the age range must also be entered. The age range drop-down box includes Weeks, Months, and Years.
  2. Select the appropriate Decision Of radio button. This field indicates that the stated preferences were based on a mutual decision between the worker and the Organization or that the preferences were based on a decision by the agency only. This field is required.
  3. Enter the Begin Date when the Preferences decision was reached. When the information is entered, it defaults to the current date although the worker can change it. If Placement Preferences change, delete the old information and enter the new information. A history of preferences will be maintained by the system.
  4. Select the appropriate child characteristics from the Acceptable Characteristics field. This list of characteristics is the same list used by case managers to identify a child's characteristics and will later be used to match children needing a placement to possible Organizations. (Characteristics may also be de-selected by clicking on the characteristic to be removed.)
  5. If Sibling Group is highlighted as a preferred characteristic, enter the Sibling Group Size. The drop-down list displays the numbers 2, 3, and 4+ and the worker should highlight the appropriate number.
  6. Check the Cross-Cultural field if the organization is willing to care for children from an ethnic group other than their own.
  7. After preferences are completed, select the Save and Close icon. Information is saved and the Home Details window displays.
