Purchase
The purchase of automobiles is allowed for participants
who have been offered employment and no other transportation alternatives
are available. The employment should be full-time and permanent, but the
purchase will be allowed as long as the employment hours are no less than
30 hours per week and the job has the opportunity for increased hours
or advancement. The employment type and wage should be appropriate to
their Self-Sufficiency Contract and allow the family to progress towards
the achievement of economic independence.
- The maximum purchase price will be limited to
$2,000.
- If an individual wishes to purchase a vehicle
valued at more than $2,000, they will be responsible for the balance.
- Additionally, a maximum of $500 is allowed to
pay the tax, licensing, and insurance (typically the first three months
of insurance.)
- The vehicle must be registered in the participants
name.
- It is recommended that the participant have the
vehicle thoroughly inspected and analyzed by a certified mechanic not
employed by the selling agent to determine the vehicles mechanical condition,
repair needs, value and if worth purchasing. The cost of the vehicle inspection
and electronic analysis are allowable.
