Time Limited
Time-limited
individuals have been lawfully admitted to the United States less than
8 years ago. The categories of time-limited aliens are:
Refugee;
Asylee;
Cuban or Haitian
entrant; or
Amerasian.
Aliens whose deportation
is being withheld and who have been in the United States less than 8 years
from the date deportation was withheld are also time-limited individuals.
EXAMPLES OF TIME-LIMITED
ALIENS
- Simian Kuznot entered the United
States as a refugee from Russia on December 2, 1996. He applied for food
stamps on June 30, 1998. Mr. Kuznot’s immigration status is refugee. He
has been in the United States less than eight years. His food stamps are
federally funded. N-FOCUS is coded as “Refugee Section 207.”
- Jang Sung Gil and his family
were admitted to the United States in September 1997 as political asylees.
They request food stamps on January 21, 1998. Mr. and Mrs. Gil’s immigration
status is asylee. They have been in the United States less than eight
years. Their food stamps are federally funded. N-FOCUS is coded as “Asylee
Section 208.”
- Orlando Hornandoz defected
to the United States from Cuba in August 1996. Upon arrival in Miami,
he applies for food stamps. He is determined to be a Cuban entrant who
has been in the United States less than eight years. His food stamps are
federally funded. N-FOCUS is coded “Cuban-Haitian Entrant - Section 207.”
- Ms. Tan had a child born in
Vietnam between January 1, 1962, and January 1, 1976, whose father is
a United States citizen and was in Vietnam during the Vietnam era. She
and her child were admitted to the United States as “Amerasians” and they
have been in the United States less than 8 years. Ms. Tan requested food
stamps for herself and her child. Their food stamps are federally funded.
N-FOCUS is coded “Amerasian.”
- Claude Deuvalier fled to the
United States in 1995 from Haiti. He arrived in the United States illegally
but his deportation was withheld due to the political situation in Haiti.
He applies for food stamps on April 15, 1998. He has been in the United
States less than 8 years FROM THE DATE HIS DEPORTATION WAS WITHHELD. His
food stamps are federally funded. N-FOCUS is coded “Deportation withheld
- Section 243(h).”
