Undocumented Aliens
Undocumented aliens are individuals residing
in the United States without immigration approval. These individuals may
tell the worker that they are illegal and have no immigration documents.
EXAMPLES OF UNDOCUMENTED
ALIENS
- Antonio Jones applies for food
stamps. During the interview, Mr. Jones states that he does not have immigration
documents but is going to apply with INS to be granted political asylum
status. Mr. Jones is considered to be an undocumented alien and is not
eligible for food stamps.
- Robert Burns and his family
come to the office and apply for food stamps. During the interview, he
declares himself a non citizen and verification is requested. Mr. Burns
provides permanent resident cards for himself and his family. Following
the interview, the worker accesses the SAVE system and uses the resident
alien number provided on the cards. The SAVE system verifies the card
belongs to Poncho Villa and his family members. Secondary verification
is initiated. INS verifies these alien registration numbers belong to
the Villa family. Mr. Burns’ application for food stamps is denied because
he cannot provide valid documentation.
