5-015.04 Functions of Adult Protective Service Staff

473 NAC 5-015.04

Services are delivered to adults and their families/caregivers in order to achieve the stated service goal(s). These services are provided directly by APS staff, through purchase of services, and/or through community-provided services. In addition, APS staff perform clearly defined functions which include -

1. Investigation functions:

a. Receiving all reports alleging abuse/neglect of vulnerable adults (referral of non-appropriate reports to other resources, where possible);

b. Determining risk and priority (see 473 NAC 5-015.10);

c. Investigating reports alleging abuse/neglect of vulnerable adults;

d. Conducting needs assessments;

e. Making collateral contacts, as necessary;

f. Providing information and referral;

g. Working in cooperation with law enforcement, as needed;

h. Initiating steps for court proceedings;

i. Record keeping and documentation; and

j. Initiating emergency intervention, as necessary and appropriate.

2. Service delivery functions:

a. Working with vulnerable adults and family/caregivers (as appropriate) to determine what services are necessary;

b. Planning for service provision and arranging for services, as appropriate;

c. Providing information and referral to other community resources;

d. Recruiting and securing service providers, as needed;

e. Case management;

f. Casework;

g. Record keeping/documentation; and

h. Service termination.
