When the Social Security Administration (SSA) returns an SSN as unverified,
the worker must:
- Recontact the household in writing informing the
household of information received;
- Request that the household respond with the appropriate
information within 10 days;
- If the household fails to respond within 10
days and provide information that resolves the discrepancy, send a notice
of adverse action to disqualify the individual with the unverified SSN;
- The individual is treated as an ineligible
household member; or
- If the household responds within 10 days and
provides the information needed to resolve the discrepancy, resubmit the
updated information to SSA.
- If the household contacts SSA and cooperates with
SSA to resolve the discrepancy, the household is eligible to participate
in the program until SSA completes its review.
