Kinship Narrative Overview

The Kinship Narrative component of the Safety Model and is Required in order to complete the Safety Assessment documentation on N-FOCUS.

This component documents the worker’s efforts to locate non-custodial parents and relatives, as well as efforts made to determine if a child is Native American and covered by ICWA.

These narratives differ from other narratives in that the worker must select the children for which the narrative applies.

Example:   if there are three children with Billy and Bobby having the same father and Jimmy having a different father, all three children could have the same ‘Maternal Relatives’ narrative , but Jimmy would need to have separate narratives for ‘Non-Custodial Parent’, ‘Paternal Relatives’ and ‘Indian Child Welfare Act’ because his information would be different.
